Divine Shelter Schools

Greetings from the Kanakuk Haiti team! We are excited to report that the Divine Shelter Schools in Haiti are open once again, and lunches are being served after a difficult year of delays caused first by social unrest and then by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The social unrest in Haiti during the past few years, along with COVID-19 restrictions in 2020, caused our Kanakuk Haiti program to cancel our annual trips with Kampers/Staff to Haiti to deliver Christmas bags to the DSS Schools. However, Kanakuk Kampers have continued to pack bags to send, and we have supplied 4100 children with Christmas bags annually. Our partnership with Cross International is a blessing, and their in-country team delivered the Christmas bags to the DSS schools and bags/gifts to the New Life Orphanage for us during this time (see photos). We have also partnered with Global Orphan Project’s Transition Academy in Haiti (a two-year vo-tech training program designed to help young adults aging out of orphanage care to make a successful transition into adulthood with relevant skills for the workplace) to pack additional bags to make up for deficiency of bags packed here through the Kanakuk Haiti Kamper program. We are hopeful that we will be able to travel to Haiti in December 2021 to personally deliver the bags to the school children as well as deliver bags and gifts to the New Life Orphanage that is supported through Kanakuk Ministries.

Please join us in praying for the country of Haiti and for the precious at-risk Haitian children who yearn for an education and the chance to thrive. The DSS schools, located in both urban and rural settings, are a powerful witness to Jesus’ love. These schools are beacons of light, offering nourishment for minds, bodies, and souls, and empowering children who might otherwise never get an education to ream of a future beyond abject poverty. Thank you for praying and for giving to our Kanakuk Haiti Project!.
